'As an artist I have been privileged to view the moors with an honest clarity, the drama of the sky with an approaching storm, the crispness of fresh fallen snow under foot or the damp chill of drizzling rain. The landscape is more than a passing view from a car window it is our heritage, culture and more personally it forms part of our thoughts and feelings.

The moving tunnel of light reminds us that as bad as they may seem all storms will pass and like the farm house on the hillside we too will weather the storm'.

We are proud to bring you this year’s Christmas card ‘Awakening’ - Cam House , Upper Wharfedale

‘Although the trees remain bare, there is an undeniable feeling of positivity and hope, as if Spring is just around the corner or a turn of the white, crisp, snow covered page.

Perhaps it’s the muddied tyre tracks in the otherwise pristine landscape that grounds us, reminding us that the snow is slowly yielding to the warm embrace of the sun.

Look closer still and see the direction of the daylight, casting the tree’s shadow across the track. It’s this light that is creating a luminescent quality to the land that it is being revealed by its gentle touch. It is as if the earth is awakening from its hibernation, the rest of the snow across the valley may take some time to thaw, but ,in this one moment I wished to share in Nature’s rejoicing.’

In the distance the light on the horizon fills my soul with hope for what will be, to remind ourselves that even on the darkest days there is always light, sometimes we have to look hard to find it, but Mother Nature will always ensure a moment of serenity even in a storm.

Perhaps this is life’s metaphor, for I have lived through many storms but have continued to embrace My Yorkshire Mistress for she is the very essence of my soul.

Earth to Earth - When the time comes and we return to her for the final time, it will be the love we leave behind that will be the mark that says ‘I was here, I lived and loved’.

To me my paintings are ‘the love’ letters that I have written throughout my life so that others may read them.

My passion has always been to chase the light, in the same way I have chased my ambition to be a professional artist and in that sense my paintings are my raw nature of what I see and feel when challenged by the Yorkshire landscape.

this is perhaps the nearest I will come as I stood on the moor land and viewed this stunning panorama, it was a moment of serenity when the rest of the world was a million miles away.

Top Withens The Heart of Yorkshire, Wuthering Heights a location very close to my heart. The gable end is no more but the climb out of Haworth is well worth it to view the panorama from its vantage point.

Records of its use as a farm house date back to the 15th century but it now lies derelict and isolated, it’s history held within its remaining walls.
